In July 2018, I was hired by Cheryl and Ernest to provide wedding photography for their special day. With morning preparations at their home, the ceremony at All Soul's Langham Place church, and their reception at the Plaisterers' Hall in Central London.
In addition to this, the couple hired me for an engagement shoot at the Kyoto Gardens at Holland Park.
The Big Day - Morning Preparations
The day began with traditional Chinese door games at the brides’ home. Where the groom has to ‘pass’ a series of challenges in order to “claim” his bride. While the games were set up in the garden, I focused my attention on the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready.
Cheryl received a lovely surprise from Ernest, who had arranged gifts for the bride to open with her bridesmaids. And these were very emotional moments to capture as she opened each one.
After the main makeup had been applied, and all the gifts had been opened, I joined the groom and his groomsmen in the garden for the games. It was a very fun capturing the activities. The couple had a love for dogs, so a few of the challenges were based on a description of a dog, and the groom had to guess what breed.
After these fun games, it was time to go back up and capture the lovely bride in her beautiful dress before Ernest received her for the first time.
We then took some family photos in their garden and I captured another Chinese tradition in the home before we set off for the ceremony.
As it happens, their wedding was the same day as PRIDE and it was held at the All Souls Langham Place church adjacent to the BBC headquarters. So shortly before the grand entrance of the bride, and whilst Ernest was greeting his guests outside in the beautiful weather, a BBC news crew interviewed him.
Back inside the ornate church, I was given access to the top floor to achieve a commanding view of the hall. Allowing me to get some unique angles for their ceremony!
We then had some fun with some group photos near the altar. Some of their guests, wanted to document the moment with their phones, and seeing a unique moment I stepped back to capture these.
After the beautiful ceremony, they had a rose petal confetti throw outside on the steps of the church before heading to Plaisterers’ hall. I always love capturing this moment. The excitement and joy on the faces of the newlyweds as their guests shower them in the petals is a beautiful moment in time.
I travelled with the couple in the car, and we had a private shoot before the rest of the guests arrived. Plaisterers’ Hall is home to a section of the Roman Wall in London. So we had fun capturing the images for their couple shoot at this location.
When the guests arrived it was time for the couples entrance in the magnificent hall. Following some lovely speeches from the groom and the brides father, it was time for the couples first dance. The couple planned in advance a special ballroom dance and Cheryl changed into a beautiful ornate blue dress for it. It was a beautiful moment to capture. Following this was the fathers and daughters dance, to which Ernest performed a beautiful song and played on his guitar.
Overall it was a beautiful and fun filled wedding to capture, and I thank the couple for hiring me to be a part of their special day. And I hope you enjoy re living their special day below in no particular order.
